Everything We Know About Paramount’s New Yellowstone Prequel Series, 1932

On the spur heels of this week’s Yellowstone news—that the fifth season of the series has begun filming in Montana, and that it will be the biggest yet—Paramount+ made another announcement about the Dutton Universe: a new series is coming to the streaming network this winter.

The series, a continuation of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, has the working title 1932. The story will “introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”

The series will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions. Taylor Sheridan will serve as executive producer.

Two cast members were also announced: Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. They will hold two yet-unknown roles, though could themselves be members of the Dutton family.

1883 followed John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner’s) great grandfather James Dutton (Tim McGraw), traveling west along the Oregon trail with his wife, Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill), and their children. One of those children, John Dutton, is the Yellowstone patriarch’s grandfather. 1932 will likely focus on him and his own son, John Dutton II, John Dutton III’s (Kevin Costner) father.

Since John Dutton—a child in 1883—will be in 60s during the events of 1932, it’s likely Harrison Ford will be the newest Dutton patriarch. Though, this casting is not yet confirmed.

Here’s what else we know about the new series.

When Is 1932 Coming Out?
