It’s no coincidence that hospitality rhymes with sustainability. The sector has always been keen to balance the development of its business with the preservation of the environment and local communities. This commitment is growing in line with travellers’ increasing ecological awareness, with 76% wanting to travel more sustainably according to the latest Booking survey. As customers become increasingly demanding, the urgency of climate change is being felt more and more. The hotel and catering industry, which accounts for 13% of the 118 million tonnes of C02 emitted by tourism, must therefore redouble its efforts to become a more responsible sector.
Mission decarbonation
While hotels currently spend 8 billion dollars a year on sustainable development management, their efforts will have to be stepped up in the coming years. According to the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, they need to reduce their carbon emissions by 66% per room by 2030…
