Zachary Levi has addressed speculation that he’s no longer DC’s Shazam.

Since James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the new co-chiefs of DC Studios back in October, there have been plenty of rumours concerning the future of superheroes such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and Black Adam.

Just a couple of days ago, one Twitter user appeared convinced that Levi had been pulled from playing the muscly man-child, a character he reprises in next year’s Fury of the Gods.

“I’m so angry that Zachary Levi isn’t gonna be Shazam anymore he was the perfect casting choice and to add more salt to the wound he is close friends with James Gunn,” she wrote in a thread.

Quote-tweeting this, a second fan added: “I want this not to be true because his Shazam is he ONE thing in the DCEU I would absolutely throw hands for to protect. @ZacharyLevi is perfection.”

Levi himself spotted their discussion and offered a response.

“Oooh, I really wouldn’t go believing everything you see on the internet. I’m Gucci, Ash. We all Gucci,” he tweeted next to a smiling face with sunglasses emoji.

Previously explaining his and Safran’s long-term vision, filmmaker Gunn–who also returns to the MCU with the third Guardians of the Galaxy in 2023–said: “The opportunity to make DC as great as it can be and as it should be–that is the reason why I’m doing this job because I know that Peter and I can do that.

“We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to map out that 8-to-10-year plan of what it’s going to look like in theatre, in TV, in animation, across the board for these characters.”
