In collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to host the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy on February 16 in Lahore.
The renovation work is yet to begin at the Gaddafi Stadium as PCB will officially begin the work on February 7 in the presence of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
According to a PCB source, chairman Mohsin Naqvi has approved a series of pre-tournament events leading up to the first match on February 19 at the National Stadium in Karachi, where Pakistan will face New Zealand.
Additionally, the PCB and ICC are finalising plans for the captains’ press conference and photoshoots, which are expected to take place in Lahore on February 16.
The opening ceremony is scheduled at Huzoori Bagh at the historic Lahore fort to which officials of different boards, celebrities, legends of the game, and government officials will be invited.
The ICC and PCB are yet to confirm if Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, will be travelling to Lahore for the events.
India will be playing their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai as part of a hybrid model deal between the ICC, PCB and BCCI and if they qualify for the final, then the title clash will also be held in the UAE city on March 9.
