The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) announces the clearance of decade-long gridlock at Mile 2-TinCan-Apapa corridor.
Says that the feat has reduced the travel time for export boxes entering the port from 10 days to less than one hour.
Notes that the clearance has not only reduced the cost of haulage but also reduced the cost of imports.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced the successful clearance of the decade-long gridlock on the Mile 2-TinCan-Apapa corridor caused by the indiscriminate parking of container trucks.
NPA made this known on its official X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, adding that the now motorable corridor has reduced the travel time for export boxes entering the port from an average of 10 days to less than one hour.
According to NPA, the accomplishment was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Lagos State Government, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force, and support of Gboyega Oyetola, the current Minister of Maritime and Blue Economy.
“The Management of the @nigerianports continues to appreciate the renewed partnership with @followlasg, @NigerianNavy, @PoliceNG, and the support of the Hon. Minister of @FMoMBENigeria, Alh. @GboyegaOyetola, in clearing the 12-year hideous gridlock on the Mile 2—TinCan—Apapa corridor.”
NPA notes that the clearance of the decade-long gridlock on the Mile 2-TinCan-Apapa corridor has not only reduced the cost of commercial transport of goods but also improved the turnaround time for trucks and reduced the cost of imports.
“The direct impacts include :
— quality control of exports
— reduced cost of haulage
— improved turnaround time for trucks
— reduced cost of imports
— improved port security
— reduced cost of shipping
— improved port competitiveness”, NPA said in a statement.
To prevent the return of the decade-long gridlock on the Mile 2-TinCan-Apapa corridor, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said it will continue to engage stakeholders in maintaining this feat.
