Meghan McCain Faces Backlash After Praising Inauguration Fashion

Like many Americans on Monday, January 20, Meghan McCain watched the presidential inauguration. But out of everything that happened, the thing that stood out to her the most was the fashion choices some of the attendees made.

On Tuesday, January 21, the morning after Donald Trump’s inauguration, the 40-year-old columnist shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) writing, “It’s honestly nice to see real fashion back in politics again.”

Users on the platform flooded the comments section of the polarizing post, with a number of folks agreeing with Senator John McCain’s daughter.

“I don’t agree with you on everything,” one user wrote before adding, “but Ivanka Trump absolutely slayed, and Melania has studied the greats on this, so her outfits this go-around will be even better,” while another added, “Sophisticated designer fashion that accentuates how gorgeous Melania is! Truly the prettiest FLOTUS.”

Despite receiving some positive feedback for her post, the majority of people who responded in the comments section seemed to disagree.

“Rich coming from you. Makes sense you’d think it’s real fashion. Makes sense you’d think fashion matters,” wrote one user, seemingly dismissing McCain’s comment. A second joked, “ah yes, fashion. one of the single most important pillars of democracy absolutely fundamental to the safeguarding of our freedoms and civil rights. must have missed that day in civics class. thank god it’s back.”

A third user noted, “Girl just hush! The way you used to dress on The View you know nothing about fashion. Between your outfits, hair & makeup you looked awful. Both Jill & Kamala always dressed nice & classy.”

McCain made her debut as one of the co-hosts of The View in 2017 and left the ABC daytime talk show in 2021. Her departure came after she had a heated on-air argument with co-host Joy Behar shortly after returning from maternity leave.
