Katie Holmes is bringing back a polarizing Y2K look.
Much like baby tees, pleated miniskirts and low-rise jeans, the “Dawson’s Creek” alum may have just signaled that the dress-over-pants combo of the early 2000s is making a comeback.
Holmes, 43, walked the iHeartRadio Z100’s Jingle Ball 2022 red carpet in New York on Friday in a strapless Tove minidress paired with bootcut jeans and black sneakers.
She completed the look with a nose ring, black shoulder bag and her brunette tresses styled in loose waves.
Social media users were quick to comment on Holmes’ latest ‘fit, with many begging for the layered look to remain in the past.
“I WILL NOT go back!!!!! DO YOU HEAR ME???? NO!!!!!!!!” one person wrote on Instagram, with another adding, “No we cannot bring back the dress jeans combo NO.”
A third person asked, “Does she have a stylist? If not please call me, if she does please do call me xoxo.”
Other users joked that the actress’ outfit was a total party on the top – and business on the bottom.
“Did she think it was a zoom event?” one person asked sarcastically, while another said, “Cocktail party on top // Target run at the bottom!”
Jeans worn underneath a dress – or a long top – was popularized in the early 2000s and was a favorite look for a number of celebrities.
Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez are just a few of many stars who hopped on the trend back in the day.
As for Holmes, this certainly isn’t the first time the mother of one has opted for a revived Y2K look.
She was spotted in a skinny scarf with a striped button-up and straight-leg jeans earlier this year.
She was also seen out and about in a white tank top with low-rise drawstring pants and Birkenstocks, which appeared to draw inspiration from the early 2000s.
