After teasing the all-new 2023 7 Series G70 last month, BMW officially showcased its flagship ride at this year’s Kentucky Derby. The high-profile unveiling took place at Churchill Downs, providing the general public with its first opportunity to walk around the luxury sedan, explore the interior, and ask questions of BMW’s on-hand staff. With this event, the German automaker became the race’s first luxury automotive partner.
The new 760i version debuted in a “murdered-out” finish complete with the highly coveted M Sport Package. With stem-to-stern matte black paint, razor-thin headlights, and an oversized grille and tires, the car has serious presence. There’s no denying that this is a car to drive when you want to make a statement, when you need to announce to the world that you have, in fact, arrived. Compared to the competition—most notably, Mercedes’ S-Class and Audi’s A8—the new 2023 BMW 7 Series feels bolder and more confident, bordering on aggressive. For our money, it’s sporty in all the right ways.

This is a $100K+ car that feels distinctly like a $100K+ car. Higher-end versions of the Series G70 feature showstopping Iconic Glow headlights. Each is embedded with Swarovski crystals arranged in an L-shape and illuminated by 14 LEDs. When a keyholder approaches, the lights illuminate in a special pattern to indicate that the car senses the driver. Upon opening the doors, lights built into the sills project BMW-branded graphics on the ground around the sedan.
Inside, BMW stripped away most of the physical buttons and extraneous controls. What’s left is an ultra-sleek minimalist cockpit worthy of its flagship automobile. Two large touchscreen displays—one front and center and another for the digital instrument cluster—anchor almost all of the car’s controls. Backseat passengers score their own touchscreen controls too, allowing them to dial in seating controls, ambient lighting, and even their own sunblinds.
The 2023 BMW 760i xDrive is scheduled for launch in the U.S. later this year with a starting price around $115,000 (including destination and handling fees). But, with all the options you’re likely to want, the all-in price is likely to be much, much higher.
