Devsisters’s title rules supreme to take coveted award nominated and voted for by the players
It was sweet, sweet victory for Devsisters at tonight’s Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards as Cookie Run: Kingdom conquered all by taking the Pocket Gamer People’s Choice crown.
In a break from tradition – though thematically suited given the action RPG nature of the victor – the award was this year won in convincing fashion. While the early stages of the voting process was a closely fought affair between four contenders (from a list of 20 finalists), Cookie Run: Kingdom soon firmly established itself in the lead and subsequently sped off into the distance.
The People’s Choice celebrates the finest gaming experience of the previous year and is the only category of the PG Mobile Games Awards – now in their fifth year and, as ever, run by our industry-focused partner site, PocketGamer.biz – that is nominated for and voted on by the players.
Because of this, it’s become something of a big-thing-that-you-should-tell-your-mum-about for the winning finalist at the ceremony, held earlier tonight at BAFTA in central London.
Mostest votes
The Devsisters game towered over its competition in a year that not only saw one of the strongest line-ups of finalists, with games that span a satisfyingly broad range of genres and types of play mechanics, but also the highest number of votes received.
Like, ever.
And for that we need to thank everyone who took the time to engage with the process – you’re all winners.
But there’s only one People’s Choice winner. And so we offer our hearty congratulations to Cookie Run: Kingdom – may it and its players enjoy their well-deserved reign.
