Bella Hadid is giving back.
Several days after her sister Gigi pledged to donate her Fashion Week earnings to Ukraine relief efforts amid Russia’s invasion — while also continuing to support her ancestral home of Palestine — Bella announced she would be following suit.
“To watch my Ukrainian friends and colleagues working hard here in Europe, so close but so far from their families/friends/homes in Ukraine who are experiencing one of many brutal occupations and invasions happening right now in the world is a very emotional and humbling experience for me,” the catwalker, 25, wrote on Instagram Thursday.
“Taking after Mica [Argañaraz] and My amazing Sis, I will be donating all of my earnings from this Fashion Week directly to organizations that are providing help, refuge and medical aide [sic] to those in need on the ground in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support our Palestinian people and land,” Bella continued.
The style star — who walked in well over a dozen shows this season — shared a photo of herself backstage at Balenciaga’s show, wearing one of the blue-and-and-yellow T-shirts designer Demna Gvasalia provided to guests at the presentation.
She also wrote that hearing stories from Ukrainian friends and colleagues “who are going through pure terror” has been “devastating,” adding, “I stand along side every person that has been affected by this war and the innocent people who’s [sic] lives have been changed forever from the hands of ‘power.’”
Bella also quoted a line from Gigi’s post announcing her similar pledge: “Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the the end of the day, innocent lives pay for war- not leaders.”
In her Instagram note shared Monday, 26-year-old Gigi said she was moved to donate her earnings by fellow model Argañaraz, who announced in February that she’d be sending part of her Fashion Month salary to Ukrainian relief orgs.
“Having a set Fashion Month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” Gigi wrote. “We don’t have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something.”
Kaia Gerber has also said she will donate part of her runway earnings this season to help those suffering in Ukraine, while designer Christian Siriano is auctioning off a dress inspired by the war-torn country’s flag to help raise funds.
And plenty of fashion brands have suspended their sales in Russia, including Uniqlo, H&M, Nike, and Puma as well as luxury labels like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada.
