ASRock’s new BOX-7040U mini PCs bring AMD’s latest Zen 4 architecture and RDNA 3 integrated graphics to the popular 4×4 form factor. Sold exclusively in a barebone configuration, these desktops feature dual Ethernet ports, four video outputs, and USB 4 support.
ASRock has just announced a couple of new 4×4 mini PCs based on AMD’s latest Ryzen 7040U series of low-TDP processors. The cheaper model comes equipped with the AMD Ryzen 5 7640U, while the high-end variant features the flagship Ryzen 7 7840U with eight Zen 4 cores boosting up to 5.1 GHz and Radeon 780M integrated graphics.
Both models are identical when it comes to expandability and connectivity, with the company only selling them in a barebone configuration. They each come with a pair of DDR5-5600 SODIMM slots, allowing users to add up to 64 GB of RAM. There’s also a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot and a SATA 3.0 connector for storage expansion, while an M.2 E-key slot allows for a wireless card to be installed.
When it comes to connectivity, we’re looking at two HDMI 1.4b, two Ethernet ports (2.5 GbE + 1 GbE), a 3.5 mm audio combo jack, three USB-A ports (1x 10 Gbps + 2x 480 Mbps), and two USB 4 ports with DisplayPort 1.4a support.
ASRock hasn’t disclosed any pricing and availability details for the new 4×4 BOX-7640U and 4×4 BOX-7840U mini PCs. However, the company is also planning to offer the motherboards without an enclosure for users who need a high-powered x86 SBC.
