Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Maternity Ankle Straight Jean

My teenage self might be surprised to learn that I still shop at Abercrombie & Fitch, but with maternity jeans like these, it’s hard to resist. Besides, the brand is experiencing quite the comeback at the moment. I’m partial to two of its maternity styles: the Ankle Straight and 90s Straight jeans. They look like normal denim, are on-trend, and yet feel extremely comfortable. I love that the front pockets are actual pockets—not faux ones like many other maternity jeans—and that the panel attaches to the interior of the jeans and not the top of the waistband. That small detail allows me to tuck in sweaters, T-shirts and blouses, which feels a touch more polished. They’re also available in sizes ranging from 23 to 37 and come in multiple lengths and washes. The full-rise panels offer a bit of compression, but can also be rolled down if you prefer.

Motherhood Maternity Secret Fit Jeans

I loved these jeggings during my first pregnancy and was happy to pull them out of the closet for round two. They’re extra soft, stretchy and comfortable, which makes them ideal for an ever-changing pregnant body. They’re a great length, even if you have long legs or are tall, and the full panel stays up all day without bunching, slipping or stretching out. I did miss having real pockets with these jeans during my second pregnancy, when I spent a majority of my free time with my toddler. Also, the belly band starts relatively low, so you need to wear a longer shirt with these if you want to cover it.

What the reviews say: It seems that other customers agree with me on the comfort of this pair, giving them an overall Amazon rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars with more than 1,700 reviews. Women of all sizes found the fit ideal, with the occasional complaint about a saggy butt.

Madewell

Madewell The Maternity Over-The-Belly ’90s Straight Jean

The ‘90s are back in fashion, and this bestselling over-the-belly pair from Madewell nails it with an old-school straight leg that feels very now. These jeans are cut lower in the front to keep you comfortable, but are snug through the hips and thighs with a higher rise in back to boost your butt and confidence. Overall, I find Madewell maternity jeans, though not this specific style, to be a comfortable, functional and stylish option. I absolutely loved the Madewell over-the-belly skinny jeans while pregnant. They’re the ideal amount of stretchy and supportive and look like normal jeans (once my shirt covered the over-the-belly portion, of course).

What the reviews say: Of this pair, one writes, “You really can’t tell they’re not regular jeans once they’re on. Very comfortable, even sitting, and still cute and trendy.”

Hatch

Hatch The Boyfriend Maternity Jean

If you’re missing on-trend jeans during your pregnancy, these boyfriend-style jeans from Hatch could be the remedy. Although they’re pricey, I can attest that they’re just as stylish in person as they appear in photos. Not only are these (and really all Hatch jeans) cute, but they’re also that rare pair of maternity jeans with a side-panel that matches the wash of the jean. This makes them look like normal jeans and negates the need to wear extra-long shirts to cover the side panels. The rise of these jeans is also ideal, because it’s not so low that I fear that my underwear might show at any moment but not so high that they won’t be wearable when my bump gets larger. And I love the fit—they’re not too baggy and not too snug.

What the reviews say: Reviewers report that while the boyfriend fit makes them feel a bit oversize, that means you can even wear them to the bitter end of your pregnancy.

Joe’s® Jeans

Joe’s Jeans: The Lara Mid-Rise Cigarette Ankle Maternity Jeans

Joe’s Jeans have become my favorite maternity jeans. This specific style, the Lara, makes me feel my most confident. I own them in multiple washes and wore them frequently during both pregnancies. I particularly appreciated them in my second pregnancy, when I showed far earlier. I wanted something that wouldn’t immediately broadcast that I’m pregnant, but that would remain comfortable all day. They’re a great thickness, and thanks to the side panels and the mid-rise, you can tuck in a shirt or wear them with a bodysuit and blazer. While other maternity jeans can feel ultra-low-rise, these hit at just the right place to flatter your changing body. I also love the cut of the leg and the length. They’re a bit cropped, and, for what it’s worth, the tush is applause-worthy. The panels do stretch out a bit and require some pulling up at times.

MOST POPULAR

H&M

H&M Mama Straight Ankle Jeans

Stylish maternity clothes too often require spending lots of cash, making the H&M Mama maternity jeans stand apart. At just $50, they’re far more affordable than most others while remaining chic. This pair has a loose and straight leg for trendy but comfort-craving moms. There’s an over-the-belly panel, but its mock fly makes them look more like regular jeans. The back pockets are real, too. I was excited to try them for baby number two, and am happy to report they deserve the praise. I tried the slim straight pair, and once they’re on, they hug the waist without feeling too snug. I found them to be the ideal amount of baggy in the legs for that laid-back boyfriend jean look. They felt soft against my skin, but thick enough to last through additional pregnancies with a bit of compression.

What the parents say: In speaking with other moms for this story, several suggested the H&M Mama maternity jeans, because they’re soft, comfortable and affordable.

Target

Isabel Maternity by Ingrid & Isabel Over Belly 90’s Straight Maternity Jeans

If you already love Ingrid & Isabel and don’t want to spend a lot on your maternity wardrobe, these trendy Isabel Maternity by Ingrid & Isabel jeans are definitely worth a look. I’ve tried (and really liked) other styles from the brand and can speak to the quality, fit and style of this affordable Target line. Like other Isabel Maternity options that I’ve tried, the full panel on these cuts low in the back for better ventilation. The touch of spandex provides the right amount of give—you may find yourself reaching for these in the postpartum period too.

What the reviews say: Many reviewers appreciate the stylish cargo pockets on this black pair for a trendy touch. “These jeans are so, so cute. I was looking for a more nontraditional maternity jean and these are perfect,” wrote one reviewer. “The straight leg and cargo style of the black pair is so good,” adds another.

Amazon

Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Maternity Boyfriend Jean

These cute cropped Levis come in an airy and on-trend boyfriend style. They have hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon and are the perfect blend of comfort and style. They come in a light and distressed wash with sizes up to XXL—and they’re under $35, which is a steal. There’s a supportive full-panel with lots of stretch and smoothing qualities. “These are perfect for an apple or curvy body,” says celebrity stylist Kim Appelt, author of Style For Everybody. “The wide band hugs you in all the right places.” You might also consider these non–full panel Levi jeans.

What the reviews say: Reviewers frequently call these jeans “comfortable.” One reviewer went on to explain, “These are the only maternity jeans I will wear. Even better, I don’t want to rip them off the moment I get home. I decided to try these after reviews of how comfortable they were, and 100% they are. Enough room on the thighs, belly panel has plenty of stretch and they are cute. Win win.”

Hudson Jeans

Hudson Jeans Utility Wide Leg Cargo Maternity Pant

Hudson Jeans prove you can still dress like yourself even when you’re expecting. These effortlessly cool Utility Jeans look just like a premium pair you’d purchase prior to pregnancy. They don’t scream “maternity,” which is exactly what so many fashionable moms-to-be are after. They’re high-quality, exceptionally comfortable and stylish. Made from a premium stretch denim, they have a mid-rise waist and four functional pockets for stashing your cell phone, lip gloss or tiny toys and treats for big siblings. Appelt says these are “great for an inverted triangle, rectangle or hourglass mama-to-be.”

What the parents say: “I love these jeans,” writes one mom. “They fit true to size. They are so comfortable, and look so good. I am so happy that I finally have something that I am excited to wear while being pregnant.” She does however warn that they may not be a great option for shorter women, unless you plan on getting them hemmed.

Paige

Paige Noella Maternity Roam Jeans

Paige denim is respected for its quality and flattering fit, as well as its laid-back but polished aesthetic. Its maternity jeans are no exception. This particular pair of Paige jeans came highly recommended by a mom friend and, after familiarizing myself with them, I can see why. These look every bit the on-trend vintage wash, high-rise denim that you see many cool moms wearing, with one minor change—the stretch panels that make them wearable all through pregnancy. Unlike some other side-panel options, this pair has over 10 inches of rise, making them akin to higher-waisted jeans. The backside appears to be a bit higher than other options, too. I wish the side panels weren’t as apparent as they are, but that can be hidden with a longer shirt. “I always preferred maternity pants with stretch and a button closure over material that went up over my belly, and Paige has some of the best,” says mom-of-three Ariel Boorstin, cofounder and CMO of Cooper, a parent coaching service. “You don’t sacrifice style for maternity comfort, which can be such a struggle. Truth be told, I’ve even worn my Paige maternity jeans a few times post-baby because I like them that much.” This is one of the priciest pairs on our list, however, and there’s less stretch in these, especially compared to other maternity jeans.

What the reviews say: One reviewers raves about them: “They are perfect—[they] wear like real denim jeans with a minor stretch.”

Citizens of Humanity

Citizens Of Humanity Maternity Paloma Baggy Jeans

Citizens of Humanity is another high-end denim maker with legions of fans. If you have room in your budget and are looking for an option to potentially use through multiple pregnancies, Citizens of Humanity jeans are an excellent option. They’re truly long-lasting and high-quality, plus the Y2K baggy style is perfect for pregnant moms who prioritize comfort and style. My pair was passed down from a friend who wore hers through two pregnancies—and they still looked brand-new when she handed them to me. There was no fading, no overstretched panels and no warping in the seams or denim. While it’s obvious in the lighter washes, the stretchy panel blends right in with this baggy black pair, opening up even more styling options. But the way these are constructed, the panel almost looks like a style element, so we could see these jeans being just as cute with a tucked-in tank and sneakers or sandals. Unfortunately, this brand doesn’t make many maternity pairs, so you may want to double up on your purchase if this is your favorite fit.

ASOS

ASOS Maternity Over-The-Bump Skinny Jeans

I’ve heard great things about ASOS maternity items from friends and reviews. I appreciate that ASOS offers options that are extremely affordable, with maternity jeans ranging from $10 on sale to $4o or less at full price. These skinny jeans close with a real button, and the wash is ideal for daytime. While I selected ASOS for best skinny jeans because of the price and style, the retailer offers essentially every style and color of jeans, with many trend-focused options, making them very much worth consideration.

What the reviews say: This specific style is one of the brand’s bestselling options and has strong reviews—and so it tends to sell out fast. One reviewer wrote, “Best pair of mat jeans. So comfy and fit perfectly.” Another added that they’re “really comfy and stretchy. Highly recommend.”

Bae The Label Australia

Bae The Label Maternity Walk This Way Joggers

The Australian maternity brand Bae The Label has a broad range of denim styles (with lots of skinny options) and overwhelming positive reviews. The price points are midrange, but the quality is top-notch. Plus, there’s free shipping to the USA when you spend $150 or more. The skinny jean maternity selection in particular caught my eye, especially these jegging-like joggers, as they’re made to wear after baby arrives, too. In a soft,
