Budget 2026 Live Updates: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s latest budget allocations include large sums of money for electronic component manufacturing, new high-speed rail routes, and five new medical tourism hubs, among others.
Budget 2026 Live Updates: In her ninth budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the proposals will be anchored to boost growth, meet people’s aspirations, and enable inclusive development.
Some of the big proposals so far include a ₹40,000 crore outlay to boost the manufacturing of electronic components, and a ₹10,000 crore allocation to back biopharmaceuticals.
Interestingly, people of Indian origin living abroad have been allowed to invest in Indian equities via a Portfolio Investment Scheme. Individual PROI limit raised from 5% to 10%, and the overall cap increased to 24% from 10% currently.
The announcement of five new medical tourism hubs led to a sharp rally in hospital stocks like Apollo, Fortis, and Metropolis Healthcare.
Large sums have been set aside for seven new high-speed rail routes, new dedicated freight corridors, and for the creation of container manufacturing ecosystem.
