Thailand launches “TravelGreen Thailand” to promote responsible travel. What are other countries doing?
In Finland, the national programme Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) , managed by Visit Finland, has been available to the industry since 2020, providing a structured 7-step framework for developing and measuring sustainability practices before granting an STF label to businesses and destinations.
Programme participation and labels (end of 2024):
- Around 1,436 tourism companies were participating in the STF programme.
- 431 companies had successfully completed the programme and earned the STF label.
- 214 STF labels in the hotel and similar accommodation sector.
The STF label requires companies to demonstrate commitments across environmental, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability, including third-party certification, transparent communication, monitoring impacts, and continuous improvement.
By consolidating existing sustainability standards into a national framework and increasing visibility through Visit Finland’s channels, STF helps travelers and industry stakeholders identify tourism service providers that have met defined sustainability criteria.
