Cons
- Can stain clothes
Dr. Johnson backs this clay mask for its ability to boost skin’s shine, fight acne, and minimize blemishes. I like it for the quick results, as my skin looked smoother and clearer after one session. Horace’s formula uses 99 percent naturally derived ingredients to gently purify and soften the skin, keeping it clear, calm, and comfortable.
Kaolin and silica actively absorb excess oil and impurities to help minimize pores and prevent blemishes and blackheads, all while maintaining moisture. The vegan, unscented formula is also free from parabens and alcohol, so it’s suitable for all skin types and never aggravated my sensitive skin. The application is insanely silky and feels like you’re burying your face in luxury bedding. You only need to leave it on for ten to 15 minutes for this mask to be effective, though I usually aim for the latter because it feels so soothing.
Plus, this stuff is aggressively blue, so I spend much of the time reciting lines from Arrested Development when Tobias auditioned for the Blue Man Group. Best of all, the tube is only $20 and lasts. Using once a week, I’ve gotten over two months out of one container. When my beard is thicker, and I’m covering less of my cheeks and chin, it can last nearly three months.

Cons
- Take more effort than others on this list to fully wash off
I first tested this mask for our 2025 Grooming Awards, and it’s been my go-to when dealing with acne breakouts ever since. It’s a mask-scrub hybrid, which is why we awarded best scrub, so it’s more exfoliating than your typical face mask. Whenever I see a couple of pimples popping up, I’ll do two sessions in a week, and my skin’s clear. It’s effective because it reduces excess oil and clears pores, as its charcoal-and-clay formula actively absorbs sebum and lifts impurities from the skin, says Dr. Hartman.
The application is super muddy—and you’re going to look like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now—but you can feel it in real time, tightening and soaking up excess oil as you wear it. That being said, since it dries so aggressively, it does take a bit more effort to fully wash off than other, smoother-textured masks on this list.

Cons
- Need to leave on your face for 15 minutes
I’m not much of a cook, but I do make one helluva guacamole, so I know a good avocado product when I see it. This face mask is powered by the fruit, whose high fatty-acid content makes it one of the most underrated (and underutilized) moisturizing agents.
Dr. Hartman likes the addition of primrose oil and shea butter, which, in addition to the avocado, further moisturize the skin and help boost the health of its barrier. Dr. Palm adds that the rich and creamy formula is ideal for someone with dry, tight, or post-shave skin, also serving as a great winter addition when skin is more vulnerable.
I have sensitive skin, especially during the cooler months, so I also appreciated that it was unscented. The texture is slightly firmer than others on this list, and having to leave it on my face for 15 minutes was a bit longer than I like (I typically aim for ten minutes or less outside of using Horace), but the results were well worth the wait. My face felt smooth and looked noticeably less red (another issue for me this time of year).

Cons
- Aloe scent may be overpowering for some
Dr. Hartman recommends this clay-and-AHA mask combo to target the issues that come with oily, acne-prone skin. This skin type often struggles with excess shine, breakouts, and uneven texture, and this mask smooths and refines the surface. Bentonite and kaolin clays actively absorb excess oil from the skin and pores, while AHAs exfoliate dead skin cells to reveal a smoother texture with consistent use, he says.
It’s also fragrance-free, so you don’t have to worry about it aggravating sensitive skin. The application is smooth and lightweight, and feels far less cakey on your face than other options. While it is free of added fragrance, there is a strong aloe scent you will smell while wearing it. I find it to be additive, giving a spa-type vibe to my tiny city bathroom, but if you’re especially sensitive to smells, you might find it overpowering. Once you wash it off, though, the scent is completely gone.

Cons
- Results aren’t as dramatic as longer treatments
I rarely have 20 minutes to let a face mask do its work, and if I do, I usually don’t have the patience. That’s why I keep going back to Ursa Major’s flash enzyme treatment. It delivers a boost of nourishment in just three minutes, making it an easy go-to for those who want results without sitting through nearly an entire episode of The Office.
It’s also a good choice for dudes with dull, tired skin because the enzymes in its formula help exfoliate dead skin cells, revealing new, brighter skin underneath. I have a beard, so wearing gel sheet masks isn’t always comfortable—or even possible—for me. This quick-acting mask is a non-sheet, gel mask, so it easily lies on my face around the facial hair.

With so many celebrity skincare lines and athlete grooming brands, it can be hard to decipher which are worth your time and which are merely cash grabs. Personal Day, founded by actress Lili Reinhart, is one of those rare celebrity-led brands that are just as effective, if not more so, than the OG skincare heavy hitters. Its products are designed to be approachable and simplistic in the best possible way. In the case of its Stay Calm Recovery Mask, the formula relies on four core ingredients and an easy-to-use, no-mess application.
Dr. Johnson supports it, saying the mask is super soothing and excellent for treating inflammation and razor burn. Dr. Hartman agrees, noting that he recommends it to patients with irritated, inflamed skin because its formula actively works to soothe and restore a calmer, healthier complexion. The chlorophyll in its formula helps reduce irritation, while zinc hyaluronate delivers antibacterial and anti-inflammatory support. Azelaic acid then targets acne-causing bacteria and further eases inflammation.

Dermalogica is constantly being listed as the best anti-aging option, and for good reason. Products that fight signs of aging are kind of its thing—this mask is no exception. Dr. Johnson says that it excels at destressing skin and minimizing signs of aging thanks to its antioxidant-packed ingredients. Vitamin A supports cell turnover to smooth fine lines and visibly reduces signs of aging, while vitamin C brightens the complexion and defends the skin from environmental stressors that accelerate these signs. Then vitamin E calms and nourishes the skin, strengthening its barrier to help it resist daily stress.
There’s also algae extract and vitamin B5 to hydrate skin and boost its overall resilience. And if the biggest hurdle to using face masks is looking silly for ten minutes, this is the one for you. Unlike most masks, it’ll barely be noticeable when it’s on your face. Rather than a mud or clay texture or a white sheet, this mask is mostly invisible and simply makes your face look shiny when you’re wearing it (instead of brown or blue). That being said, it does have a mild chemical smell, but it’s gone once you wash it off.

The Jaxon Lane Bro Mask sets itself apart from other sheet masks because it’s actually designed to fit a man’s face. Most claim to be unisex but are sized for smaller features, slipping off stubble, and stopping short of full coverage. The Bro Mask is wider, with perfectly placed eye openings and a two-piece construction that lets beard wearers apply the top half without fighting adhesion issues. Its hydrogel material also beats standard paper or cotton—it feels cooling, seals in ingredients, and sticks so well that you can move around without it sliding off.
That hydrogel delivers a potent mix of niacinamide to calm redness, collagen and peptides to support firmness, and botanicals like green tea, licorice, and ginger to soothe, brighten, and balance skin. With ingredients that target common concerns like irritation, dullness, and dehydration, the mask works for most men. Used weekly, it noticeably evens tone and reduces redness, especially for reactive skin. But the immediate payoff is where it shines: hyaluronic acid and the hydrogel’s moisture boost leave skin plumper, smoother, and revived—ideal after travel or after a long day.

- Over $50
TimeSavvy’s Sealing In Moisture Mask stands out the moment you pull it from the pouch. A three-layer design keeps the formula contained, prevents dripping, and gives you time to apply it without racing the clock, unlike typical sheet masks that get slippery, collect dust, or get messy the second they’re exposed. Here, an outer membrane protects the product until you’re ready to press it onto your face.
The mask comes in two pieces, similar to the Bro Mask: an upper panel for the forehead, nose, and cheeks, and a lower one that wraps around the mouth and jawline. As someone with a beard, I appreciate the flexibility. The formula is equally thoughtful. Niacinamide brightens and strengthens the skin barrier, collagen delivers hydration, and adenosine firms and smooths fine lines. It’s also fragrance- and paraben-free for sensitive skin. Application is simple—peel, press, and go.
The mask grips immediately and stays put for the full 15 minutes, even over shorter facial hair. Other two-piece masks tend to slip, but this one doesn’t budge. After one use, my skin looked smoother, more even, and noticeably hydrated, and the results lasted for days. The cream-based essence locks in moisture without dripping, so I can fold laundry, answer emails, or rewatch mid-aughts sitcoms while wearing it.
