Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday announced significant additions to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which has been expanded to cover wild animal damage and water-logging losses.
Chouhan, in a statement posted on X said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the inclusion of two major categories of crop damage that were previously not covered under the scheme. These include, crop damage caused by wild animals and crop losses due to flooding or waterlogging from excessive rainfall”.

According to Chouhan, farmers had been requesting compensation for these specific losses for several years. With the scheme now expanded, compensation will be offered for both wildlife-induced destruction and rainfall-related waterlogging.
“Even if wild animals damage the crops, compensation will be provided, and if the crops are damaged due to waterlogging, compensation for the loss will also be provided,” Chouhan said, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for the policy update.
He requested farmers across the state to enrol without delay, saying that the enhanced scheme now offers broader and more inclusive protection against unforeseen agricultural losses. The announcement is expected to benefit thousands of farmers in regions frequently affected by wildlife intrusion and heavy monsoon-driven flooding.
