- REI does not officially do a Black Friday sale. It instead closes 190+ of its locations for the day.
- But REI does a holiday sale, which just launched on Nov. 14 and runs until Nov. 24.
- Customers can save up to 40% on gear, and REI members get 20% off a single full-priced item.
EVERY HOLIDAY SEASON for the past decade, REI has shut its doors on Black Friday. Instead of holding a Black Friday sale, the outdoor retailer encourages customers to #OptOutside by getting in nature and on an adventure. This Black Friday will mark 10 years of that. But, the good thing for you and your holiday shopping is that REI is currently running its holiday sale where you can save up to 40% off gear—and if you’re an REI member you can save 20% off any one single full-priced item.

The REI holiday sale runs through November 24 and includes savings on thousands of items ranging from camping gear to running apparel to outdoors tech. Sorting through all of that can be a little overwhelming. So I dug through and found 12 standout deals below, along with six full-priced items I’d scoop up with an REI membership (keep in mind, members only get one eligible item 20% off). Here’s to starting Black Friday 2025 early!

One of the top finds is our best overall trail running shoe, the Saucony Peregrine 15, at 25% off. Already a solid value at $145, it’s a very lightweight (9.7 oz) shoe with a heavily treaded PWRTRAC outsole that doesn’t feel bulky underfoot. Versatile and low-profile, we’ve found it performs best on dry trail conditions. To get it at just over $100 is a bargain.
REI’s in-house brand REI Co-Op is a very under-appreciated gear offering. And the Siesta Hooded 20 Sleeping Bag fits the bill here at 30% off. It’s a bit roomier with a classic rectangular shape and is rated down to 20 degrees. It’s diverse in that it had an insulated hood with a drawstring cinch that can fit a full-sized pillow, the two-way zipper allows the bag to be fully opened and used as a quilt, and the short off-side zipper allows it to be folded down to mimic a bed-like feel. Under $105, you’re getting a really solid bag for a price where the quality usually isn’t there.
A few other standout deals are the JBL Flip 7 (a 2025 Outdoor Awards winner), the Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED ($250 in savings!), and the Exped Megamat Duo (one of the top sleeping pads out there). Dig around and find that next piece of outdoor gear for a steal!

First off, for all the REI member deals, keep in mind that you must be an REI member and that you only get one eligible item at 20% off with code HOLIDAY2025. REI only offers this a few times a year, so it’s definitely worth the $30 membership and certainly a necessity to use if you are a member.
Anytime you can score a deal on a Yeti Tundra Cooler it’s a good thing. These really only go on sale once or twice a year, so getting to knock off $75 could make for a smart Christmas splurge.
The same can be said for Patagonia’s Nano Puff Jacket, our best overall puffer. It weighs only 11.9 oz but sports 60g of Primaloft Gold Eco insulation, which is warm even when wet. The Nano Puff is beefy enough to wear as a mid-layer but light enough for a standalone during shoulder season and chilly summer evenings. It’s a jacket that you can wear to the office or out on the trail and will see many dependable years of use.
There are a ton of other options for that one full-price savings, and these are just a couple that stick out to me.

Does REI Have a Black Friday Sale?
No, REI does not have a Black Friday sale in 2025. The outdoor retailer will close 190+ store locations (while giving all employees a paid day) and encourage customers and members to #OptOutside for the day. REI does run a holiday sale from November 14 to 24 in which customers can receive up to 40% off outdoor gear.
What’s the Difference Between REI and REI Outlet?
Almost everyone who loves the outdoors knows that REI is ground-zero for gearing up for hiking, biking, kayaking, climbing, fishing—pretty much any type of adventure, really. REI Outlet is the retailer’s dedicated discount section, a round-up of last season’s gear and its famous flash sales. It’s the single best place to shop if you’re looking for the absolute best deals on the world’s best outdoor brands. You’ll find great deals year-round, but the deepest discounts are almost always during REI’s holiday sale events. Don’t forget to check back early and often as REI Outlet’s inventory changes frequently. Sale prices can drop suddenly and things sell out fast!
How to Use an REI Co-Op Membership to Save More
REI offers many of its best perks and sale event access to REI Co-op members. Even if you’re not a frequent REI shopper, it’s worth the one-time $30 fee to join. For the holiday sale, REI members get one eligible item at 20% off and one eligible Outlet item at an extra 20% off with the code HOLIDAY2025. That’s not all though.
REI members also receive a 10% dividend on most in-store and online purchases, as well as receiving discounts on gear rentals and during REI’s best annual sale events (like the holiday sale). That $30 can easily pay for itself in just one visit!
